After my husband and I got married in 2014, we decided that we wanted to wait a while before starting a family. In 2018, we were ready to grow our little nest and with that, our fertility journey began. We started with regular doctor visits and check-ups, happily, we received the go ahead as all results returned perfect and we were told that we were young and healthy, so we should try as soon as possible. We tried, we tried and tried for 6 months, we quickly realized that we needed to revisit our doctor for some assistance. Sadly, 6 months turned into one year, and a year turned into 4 years. At this point, it had appeared as if we tried everything. We felt as if we were in a turning wheel of Pills, Injections, Yoga, meditation, fertility apps, ovulation testing and what seemed to be unending cycles of IUI. After each menstrual cycle, our hearts broke more and more. After each IUI we began to lose strength, however, I was always a very religious person, so I prayed and kept my faith up and by extension my husband’s faith. We lacked nothing, we had a tiny but very supportive village who encouraged us along the way, they prayed for us and sometimes made sure that we understood and weighed all of our options. I must say that I am a very determined person, I knew what I wanted and I was not considering any other option as yet. My mission was to bring our child into this world and that kept me focused. In 2021 I was listening to an inspirational sermon and one thing that resonated with me was that sometimes we have to do things in a non-conventional way. That was all that I needed to give me another push and a renewed burst of energy. In the past I would’ve heard people speak of the Barbados Fertility Center and its many success stories. I was intrigued and encouraged at the same time. I began watching testimonials on the BFC YouTube page and I got the opportunity to see more success stories. In January 2022 I decided to visit their Facebook page and saw a post which stated “Make 2022 your year”. I often refer to this post as ‘a life changing post’.
My husband has always been very supportive and encouraging. So, I immediately shared my new found information with him, backing it up with some of the success stories that were shown on YouTube. He was sold! His attitude was, whatever we had to do to have our baby we will try. I immediately reached out to BFC in 2022, this was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my entire life. I felt as if I was greeted with love, care, compassion, smiles, top notch advice (as I was contemplating trying a 4th cycle of IUI) and so much more. All of which we experienced through the computer and the phone. When we arrived at BFC, it was no different, we felt love, care and compassion even more from our amazing nurse coordinators, nurses, cashier, front clerk and everyone else. I enjoyed my vacation/ fertility treatments each day by going to the beach, eating at amazing restaurants, indulging in the fertility clinic’s top notch holistic relaxation treatments such as acupuncture, reflexology, massage etc.
Ultimately, it all paid off and in April 2023 we welcomed our healthy baby boy into this world. Tears of sadness became tears of joy. I will forever be grateful to God, My Tiny Village and My Family at the Barbados Fertility Clinic for helping to make what only seemed like a dream become my favorite reality. I can go on and on about my Fertility journey but I would like to encourage ‘You’ as I was encouraged… TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT, SOMETHING UNCONVENTIONAL IF YOU MUST! YOU NEVER KNOW UNLESS YOU TRY.
If you are as religious as I am, remember this scripture “He has watched over your journey… and you have lacked nothing” Deuteronomy 2:7.
Make 2024 your year. #2024 YOUR year!
