Doctors in the Bay Area told me that I had a 25 percent chance of success but of having a baby if I went through three IVF cycles and a surgery over 2 years that would cost me around $100k. This news was devastating and stressful.
My husband and I worked hard to consult with as many doctors as we could and explored any other affordable options. With faith, we decided to go to Barbados in March and do our IVF treatment there while working remotely.
Instead of 3 cycles, a surgery, and $100k, we spent $14k and did one cycle in one month in a place whose people and waters healed us deeply. We went from a place of intense stress and noise to a place of kindness and beauty that helped us navigate the already difficult journey of IVF. A few days after we returned, I got my positive pregnancy test.
